Acer laptops are equipped with a touchpad that functions like a computer mouse. When typing on the laptop, you may accidentally touch the pad and accidentally place the cursor in an arbitrary place of the screen--slowing down your writing. Use Windows Control Panel or special function keys on the Acer Laptop Keyboard to disable the touchpad on the Acer laptop.
Using Windows XP/Vista/7 Control Panel
Click "Start" in Windows, and choose "Control Panel."
Click on the "Classic View" link located on the left side of the Control Panel.
Double-click on "Mouse" to open the Mouse Properties" window. Then click on the tab "Device Settings."
Click on "Synaptics TouchPad" in the "Devices" field, and click the "Disable" button.
Click "OK" to turn off the touchpad on your Acer laptop.
Using Acer Laptop Functional Keys
Find the "Fn" key, typically located in the bottom left corner of the Acer Laptop Keyboard.
Press the "Fn" and "F7" simultaneously to disable the touchpad.
Press the keys "Fn" and "F7" again to enable the touchpad if necessary.
